I got this tattoo about 4 years ago whilst doing my A levels… I love quotes but couldn’t decide between my favourites so I settled for this (though it didn’t and still doesn’t feel like settling; I think it’s super great).

‘Have faith in me’ - A Day To Remember.
This band has kept me sane through all of my very rough patches, for 4 years they have been my favourite band and some of their lyrics have been my rock. I got this tattoo done earlier today by Chris at Old School Tattoo, Brisbane.

When I was fifteen, I was infatuated with a girl for a couple of months, but she moved away. We kept in touch, and I introduced her to the Iron & Wine cover of this song, which she fell in love with. That Christmas, I asked for a guitar, and, without ever reading music or playing an instrument before, I set out to learn to play this song. Nothing else, just this song. For two months straight, day-in and day-out, I would play it, over and over again, until it was perfect. I’ve never had the chance to play it for her.
Without her, and without this song, I never would have learnt to play guitar, and I never would have started writing music. And without her, I never would have gone back to school, or gone on to university, or moved to London. I can’t even remember what it was like to not love her from a distance, and, to be honest, I’m not even sure if I still do, or if I ever truly did. But she looked completely and utterly perfect, from far away.
And she still does.

Having gone through so much trouble in my life, losing a brother, abusive relationships, school problems, and problems at home, this lyric has given me the boost to keep on living. Whenever things are going bad, i know not to worry. Forever.
So far I’ve been coming up short with a way to explain my tattoo that doesn’t require too long of a conversation. Mostly because it has a few different meanings. Maybe I’m saying that my wonderfully, minuscule life is one to be quoted, looked back on, and learned from as is everyone’s. Maybe I just couldn’t choose a favourite quote and didn’t wanna be stuck with one my entire life because hey- beliefs, feelings, and insights change. Maybe it’s there so I can choose a quote that applies to my life at the time and imagine it’s there whenever I need it to be. Maybe it’s a little all of the above. Or maybe I just wanted something unique and cool that I could look back on when I’m old and falling apart and say “remember when I was 18 and my life was awesome?”
